Schools Out, Now What?
Summer vacation is almost here, teachers are concerned about retention of skills learned during the school year and parents are faced with the " I'm bored attitude after a week or so." As parents we greet summer vacation with many different attitudes from the parent who jumps for joy at the end of the school year to the one who feels like crying. Many of us have heard of the "perfect parent" (possibly an urban myth) who has lined up enrichment activities, art lessons, Latin tutors, has researched their vacation destination for educational opportunities, and will ban TV. For the rest of us we can incorporate a summer lifestyle that will easily keep our children ready to learn while having fun. Here are some ideas.
Welcome to Imagine Broward

Welcome to Imagine Charter School at Broward! We are halfway through our inaugural year here in sunny, Coral Springs, Florida. We have officially adopted our school mascot; The Phoenix!
The Phoenix officially took flight along with our newly adopted school colors, silver and blue. Here at Imagine Charter School at Broward (ICSAB), we follow the Project CHILD Curriculum.
As an Imagine school, our mission is to help parents and guardians educate their children by creating learning communities of achievement and hope. Imagine Schools’ founders, Dennis and Eileen Bakke, are passionate about making a difference in education by applying a unique, organizational and operational structure, guided by shared values of integrity, justice, and fun. This approach puts teachers and school leaders in charge of the decisions affecting the schools and students they serve. Imagine Schools was founded with the goal of restoring vision and purpose to schools and returning parents and guardians to full participation in the education of their children.
At Imagine Schools, we believe in accountability and continual improvement. We believe in the Six "Measures of Excellence". These are the yardsticks we use to evaluate our effectiveness in providing a challenging, effective program of study, and strong moral development, in a safe, nurturing environment. The Six Measures of Excellence are:
Parent choice and satisfaction
Adhering to shared values
Academic achievement
Positive character development
Economic sustainability
New School Development
We have established criteria for evaluating ourselves and our schools in each area. We grade ourselves annually on how we are performing. We use these grades to keep us motivated and to set annual goals for each school year.
